Join mindfulness expert and world-renowned restorative yoga teacher Jillian Pransky in an Instagram Live conversation with Dan Libby about his work founding and leading the Veterans Yoga Project (VYP). The VYP has worked with tens of thousands of veterans and active-duty military men and women using these practices and many have found relief from symptoms as well as gained resilience against life’s challenges.
Veterans participating in these programs have reported (and many research studies confirm) that they sleep better, concentrate and think more clearly, manage anger and aggression more easily, and find comfort in their own skin. In 2020, a study by the VA Center confirmed that the use of complementary and integrative health modalities, such as yoga and meditation, do in fact have a positive impact when treating returning veterans - and can even reduce the effects of PTSD.
VYP has trained more than 1,845 teachers across the US and Canada, and provided over 720 scholarships to veterans and their family members.
Dan shares, "We envision a future where all those affected by trauma have access to a full range of mind-body practices to facilitate recovery and resilience. We are committed to providing these tools and training in Safe, Predictable, and Controlled environments (SPaCe)."
Dan is a founder and Executive Director of Veterans Yoga Project. He is a licensed clinical psychologist and yoga teacher specializing in the mindful integration of evidence-based psychotherapies and complementary and alternative medicine practices for the treatment of PTS(D) and other psychological and emotional distress in active-duty military and veterans.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow with Yale University’s Department of Psychiatry and the VA’s Mental Illness Research and Education Clinical Center, Dan conducted research investigating the physiological correlates of mindfulness meditation as well as the first epidemiological investigation of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in VA PTSD treatment programs. He is also former Director of Clinical Services for the Starlight Military Rehabilitation Program and has taught mindfulness and yoga to hundreds of veterans and active-duty service members.
